Table height?

The BGE website plans call for a 32" height - but my kitchen counters are 36" - Is there something I should consider (such as the height of the egg above the table top) before raising the table top up?

Don't go too high unless you are extra tall.

I am 6'1" and i did my table top a little higher than the plan called for. If memory serves I went up 2". The egg sits a few inches higher so the hinges can clear. I don't like it so high. When I am cooking at the fire ring level or on the spider it is a little awkward for me to reach in.

I am probably going to cut my table down a couple inches or maybe build a new one this spring.

I'm working on a table design right now, a modified naked whiz table, and was planning on having the egg lip height at 36".

I couldn't think of any safety reasons not to adjust the height.

I'm 6'5" and need the extra height. I'm also putting in some cabinets and a drawer for enclosed storage. I just need to figure out how to seal it properly to keep excess moisture from building up.

I just finished my new table. The counter top is 36" off the ground and the lip of the egg is 40" off the ground which is 4" higher than most table designs. I haven't cooked on it much yet but so far it hasn't been a problem at all and I am only 6' tall. I actually like having the food higher up - makes it easier to reach and see what is going on. It also reduces the risk of flash back since my egg sits a bit farther back from my body due to the depth of my table. I just did some chicken legs tonight on top of the vertical leg rack, cast iron grill, and inverted plate setter so the food was in the top part of the dome and I was able to reach all of the food and grill parts with ease. No problem laying the charcoal in by hand or starting the fire either so I think this height will be just fine for me.

The only drawback I can think of is that I can't look straight down into the daisy wheel like I used to when the egg was sitting lower in a nest. I can see partially in the daisy wheel at an angle but not straight down, although I would rarely do that anyway so this isn't really a drawback. Another bonus to the extra height is that the draft door is now higher up which makes temp adjustments and cleaning easier, and all of my table top gadgets like the temp probe, cookware, mitts, etc. are easier to reach and handle. I hope to take some pics of my finished table tomorrow if the sun comes out, then I am going to post a full report on my new table.
