What can a mini cook

Hi all,
I have a large and a small egg but was wondering if a mini would work for weekend camping. The small is getting awful heavy as the years go buy......
I see this from the main page but want to get feedback from mini users as to what's possible to cook on it. I'll only be cooking for two people so I don't need a lot of room.
The Mini can cook:
* 2 chicken breasts
* 2 pork chops
* 1 steak
Can it manage:
- 2 New York Strips
- slow cook a boneless turkey breast for a few hours
- cook a two rib roast?
- 1 small pork loin
What's the largest item I could expect to cook and how long can it keep the fire going?
I kind of expect it's not at all suited for low and slow type cooks but more to the sear and standard grilling type cooks.

You can do quite a bit with the mini. We always take it with us on vacation to Marco Island each September. The links below are some of the cooks from last year.

A couple Fatties in the morning. Couple steaks at high temps.
I think eveything you mentioned could be. Might have to refuel. But you're camping. :woohoo:

For more of a first hand visual...take a 9" cake pan out. That is the size of the mini grate.

I eggspanded the possibilities with an indirect set up for the mini. Made a plate setter from a pizza stone, added a second fire ring to raise the gird with a now larger lump load capability. As far as I know there is no factory indirect set-up for the mini but myself and others have improvised on our own.

When weight is a factor the mini wins.... I can lift it into the back of my buggy without busting my ****. :pinch:

I'll be fireing up the mini for lamb today. To be fair, the mini is mini and has limitations in how much you can cook at one time,.... for instance I cook two regular size ribeye steaks one at a time. And that's ok.... I'll cook my steak last while quaffing another beer, relaxing and enjoying the moment. I have done low-n-slows and gotten 4 hour runs on one full load of lump, no problem as long as I build a good fire.

hey clay, your pizza stone / platesetter idea is a dandy. how did you cut the pizza stone so perfectly?

I wanted a plate setter so I made one. Used a right angle grinder and a masonry cutting disc and basically carved down a BGE pizza stone. Lot's of dust, let me tell ya. I was in full gear, dust mask, face mask, ear muffs, leather gloves, apron. I worked carefully off a pattern I made that was smaller in proportion to the plate setter for my large. Thanks for the complement.

i smoked 2.5 lbs of beef ribs for 5 hours.
1 good sized strip room for another
scrapple and cornmeal mush
