How hard is it to remove the lid

Unknown
edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
I have a large BGE. It is currently in a nest. I bought a BGE table and now my challenge is to lift the BGE out of its nest and in to the table. My wife cannot handle half of the weight of the entire BGE so I figure I simply need to make it weigh less. I can remove the inside firebox but I'm wondering how hard it would be to remove the lid also? I did not assemble this BGE and do not have the bracket that holds the spring loaded hinge in place.[p]I think we're stuck ...

No problem removing the dome. Just loosen the bolt that tightens the upper band and lift off the dome. Watch out the handle doesn't fly up and pop you in the kisser. You don't need those retainers. If the top band does open up just pull it back down using the HANDLE ONLY. You should be able to handle it ok if you take out the innards. The draft door with the doors open makes for a good handle during operations like this.

    Pat Downs,
well it is pretty easy after you get used to it.... i thought i had more pictures but this one wil have to do...
crackedeggfirday008.jpg[p]see the wire ties at the back??? they will hold the bands in place until you get everything back together... and yes you are thinking the right way... take everything out of it and it will be easier to move....[p]
also if you Click Here you will go to the new forum.. you may get some more answers to your question there[p][p]

Remember the handle is on the lower band. Should the lower band slip or release you will loose and break the egg. Don't use the handle as a lifting point.

I removed the springs using a brake changing tool. Worked great for getting the spring off and back on again. I think the wire ties would be easier all around though.

tightening the band propperly is crucial if you remove the top , instruction are on bge website or on the dvd [not sure which] others are more knowledgeable than i, in this matter, and hopefully they will post. meanwhile back at the ranch...

Pat, I got my new large egg totaly assembled, but I still had to put it on the nest. I didnt want to mess with the top so had two of my workers carried it about 50 feet and put it in. Yes they struggled a bit but I think if you can get 3 US size guys you¨ll make it without any hassle. Good Luck.
