Nifty New Grid Lifter
egret
Posts: 4,180
I was gifted with a new-design grid lifter at the Florida Fest and I gotta tell you, this is one fine product! This handy gadget is made by "Thirdeye" on this forum. Very interesting and unique design that is extremely functional.
It's very easy to pick up the grid, and, I expect this is the answer to those of you who have the cast iron grids (I don't have a CI grid, but, the one shown here is a SS grid made by tjv on this forum-hey, I believe in spreading the wealth ).
One of the really nice features with this lifter is the ability to hang it on your egg mates, or elsewhere, without getting grease on, or burning, whatever surface you would otherwise have to lay the grid on.
Thank you, Wayne, for this fine gift. Much appreciated.

It looks like it would double as a fine backscratcher for those hard to get spots........
-
Me Likey! My real questions is - how do you get your grid so CLEAN???
-
egret,
You are very welcome and thanks for the kind words..…I was hoping you would get one because of all the work you put into organizing the recipes etc. I can take credit for the design and build, but our friend RichardFL set-up this whole give-away. Anyway, you (and seven other folks) have one of a special limited edition of eleven “green” ones. Always thinking of something unique, Richard ordered them a couple of months before the Eggfest and then arranged for the distinctive green powder coating by a shop in Florida.
He was one of the original “field testers” of the design back in ’06, and it was a special treat when I received two of the green ones back from him.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
I got one!!! Anxious to try it but don't want to get it dirty LOL.
That Richard is something else...

I got one of those too but haven't had a chance to try it yet. Thanks for the tutorial. I would bet I'll use my cast iron grate more now that I have it.
I think I'll test it out tomorrow. -
that was my exact thought too. That has to be a new grate - right John? If not please share your cleaning method.
-
Thanks to you and Richard for including me. It's a very cool item.

cool beans on the green idea. thirdeye is a master craftsman. you ever dirty up that grid...Twww.ceramicgrillstore.com ACGP, Inc.

Sweeet! I really like the powder coating on that one, and was wondering if it is strong enough to pick up the standard BGE cast iron grill...
Thanks for sharing! -
Blasphemy!!!!!
Woe is me.....I am lost! Now Marina will never get those corrective shoes.
Damn those "Better Mousetraps"...Damn them!!!! Where will I go?...What will I do? Male prostitution is out, as well as manual labor....What is to become of me?

dirty it up? you ask...you betcha and I've treated it with mucho respect and never used iron to scrape it. Just the same my sure isn't bright and shiney like Grape Boy's! I bet he displays in on a mantel or something!

Good looking piece of equipment!

I'm envisioning a custom wood handle attached to the gripping part of that lifter. -RP

Cleaning method?? It's obvious my SS grid looks as good as the day I got it. And, it will stay that way until my original craps out :woohoo:
I didn't dare do this with the thing I'm cooking on now....... -
That subject has been eggplored and in order to have a LW handle that is doable the 90 degree "hook" at the end has to bo cut off and then the hanging on the table/wing is defeated. Am sure that LW will come up with an idea.
-
You're most welcome! You've got a winner with this design.......
-
No, it could be done as a two parter like the handle on the Egg. -RP
-
I'm pretty sure it can handle a CI grid with no problem. There were some posts some time ago that indicated it worked well with the 'heavy' grids........
-
That is true. The original thinking a year ago was to cut the 90 off and make the handle with a hole thru it for the handle. It is not an ipossible feat with the talent on this forum.
-
Yeah, you wouldn't want to lose the 90 because it is one of the best features of the lifter. -RP

LOL - I understand and to prove it Pat just told me yesterday that I have 3 brand spanking new pairs of my favorite Nike walking shoes in the closet! My only come back was "well, Dear, you bought them - I didn't!" If I hadn't humored her later in the day I would have been sleepin single in a double bed! :P
-
I bought one and think it is great. Practical design and a joy to use....tom
