onion on the egg
I just wanted to say thanks to whoever it was that suggested putting an onion right on the coals before starting a cook! WOW! I had the dogs howling in the neighborhood, and a few neighbors over just to see what I was doing this time. It was spatched Chix, elevated, and flipped at the end with cap off and vent wide open for about 5 minutes to crisp up the skin. Best thing I have ever done. This egg is great.

Seth Howard,
Salright. I got the idea from a young guy at the checkout stand. He said that this was his grandpa's secret from old Mexico. The smell DOES drive people (and my dogs too) bonkers. It just adds to the whole experience.

Huck,[p]Yeah but do you slice it in half first? Or just put it on whole?[p]Peeled or unpeeled?
-
Deep_Nukem:[p]Inexpensive, quartered, and unpeeled . . . Add a slice or two as required during your low and slow or grilling.
-
Deep_Nukem,
I threw the whole thing right on.

Seth Howard,[p]Do you eat the onion when you're done cooking?
-
BluesnBBQ,
I would, but after an hour it is gone. I can taste it now though with the incredible edible smell it puts off.
