A week or so back someone was telling about getting an old egg and wanted info about it and size of the fire ring. I chimed in that I would like to get a plate setter for my old egg. I'm still wondering about it fitting. Someone said no.
My fire ring is 6" high and from the bottom of the ring to the top of my base is 9" so I have 3" above my grill. Is that enough for a plate setter?

I did not go out and measure mine, but I think it is about 3" above below the lip.
I do not see any harm if it extends slightly above the opening.
If it is a really old Egg, you need to verify that the ceramic is good for really hot cooks (pizza). If you are going for an indirect barrier, I think that there are easier ways to go.
