I'm ready to build a table for my med and lrg eggs. I have looked at the plans on the BGE web site, and I am going to modify their plans somewhat. My only question is the height of the lower shelf to support the eggs. What should this distance be? What should I use as a fire barrier? Porcelain tile, concrete stepping stone, granite? Is there any minimum distance I need from the table top to the side of the eggs?
Thanks,
Paul
Thanks,
Paul

I used the measurement from the BGE plans (I think it was 15") on my table but if I was to do it again I'd set about 17".

Make sure you take into account the hinge by either knotching out a hole for the hinge or ensuring the hinge is above the table when the dome is open. Either way works - just a matter of personal preference. This is how I handled the hinge on an XL - the BGE dimension of 12.5" on their XL plan doesn't work without knotching out for the hinge. Can't comment on the L and M.

Thanks. I never really payed attention to how far the hinge hung down. That will make a difference in height.
That's a nice looking table top. Marble? -
Corian - the price was right. Salvaged from a kitchen makeover from a couple years ago.
