Been eyeing the BGE for several years now and watching this forum. Just a few weeks ago my friend got a brinkman barrell smoker, so my desire to own a BGE intensified (competitive sort I am). So after two weeks of too many hours reading this forum and more about the BGE and telling my wife all about, I finally left work early last Friday and headed to my local dealer. Two short hours later, my large BGE with spring assist and nest and daisy top was delivered and setup. Trouble was, we had plans already Friday night, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday. It was pretty much torture waiting to cook on the thing. Tonight I finally got my chance. Spatchcock chicken with Rudy's Rub (excellent BBQ joint, San Antonio, TX). One hunk a'hickory. In a word, it was bliss. Took longer than I thought (and Naked said), like 65 minutes, but I had trouble keeping the thing near 350, once I put the bird on the temp lowered and didn't respond quickly to small adjustments. It was so moist I just pulled the stuff apart like a barbarian and stuffed it in my face. Skin was a bit rubbery but for a first effort it was great. My shirt reeks of hickory right now. Can't wait for the next cook. I think I need to call my insurance company and report a "life event" as this is surely one of those.

    ChicagoQ,
Welcome to the Wonderful World of Egging, ChicagoQ. I'm rather new myself to this society, but as you know from monitoring this site for some time, if you need assistance or a valued opinion, all you have to do is ask![p]Congratulations on your "life event".

    ChicagoQ,
Congrats on joining the BGE family. Glad the first cook turned out well. There's plenty more great meals ahead of you! Can't imagine having it sitting on the patio looking at me for 3 days and not being able to cook on it!

    Jethro,
I live right near Wrigley Field. Got my BGE in Evanston at FirePlaces Plus. Great people there, corn fed.

ChicagoQ,[p]I assume you're a Cubs fan living near Wrigley, if I am correct it's good to have another long sufferin Cub fan here. Course were still out numbered, though I think we got em beat in sufferin, by the Indians fans.[p]Welcome Aboard,
    Jethro
