Ok in an earler post I did some 3-1-1 ribs and saved the last 1 to do on his charcoal grill. http://www.greeneggers.net/index.php?option=com_simpleboard&func=view&id=409745&catid=1 Talked him into letting me bring a good bag of lump to use in his homemade rig. He has always used the nastie "K" word that is pre petrolium saturated. (Kingsford matchlight) He is a weilder for a oil refinery factory so you know he's anal else he would be blown up by now. Dumped 1/3 bag of lump in his grill and light her up. I had told him how much better lump would taste and cheaper also. I had my doubts as to if his rig would kill the lump but it's tight and killed it like the Egg. 1/2 of it was left. Bottom line: 4 ribeyes he cooked, 1 rack St. Louise ribes I cooked and finnished on his grill, 2 doz. hot and spiecy shrimp I did on his grill, baked potato, Trexs no knead bread, plenty of brew and good friends. 2 couples Man I'm stuffed. We eat like Kings. Truely we are all blessed! :)LastwkFEB08.jpgLastwkFEB08007.jpgLastwkFEB08008.jpgLastwkFEB08011.jpgLastwkFEB08012.jpgLastwkFEB08014.jpgLastwkFEB08015.jpg

Thats the "part 1" Got him using the lump. Next the Egg. ;) I must say his rig is nice. It just takes so much to get hot. Once it does it's so thick and air tight it acts a lot like the Egg.

Wolf, I want a small bad. The Medium is moveable but I have 3 ruptured disk at 42 years old. I used to grab a cross tie and head across the pasture with it over my shoulder. 3 months on my back broke me of that habbit!! When I got my Medium I broke it completly down to put it in the shack. Looking at a Doberman as my old Lab is 11 but a good working one is 1500 to 2000 US and with me working graveyards even though she can double tap head shots at 25 all day its a differant world at night in a dead sleep! Would like something to watch over her when I'm gone. Just got her a 08 Pathfinder. Can't have it all at once.

The only thing about rescue is early imprinting and genetics. I have rescued dogs and cats that own the house. However I trained Labs for 12 years and ran Hunt test and Championed out two of them. I'm looking at Schutzhund 2 or better in parents with OFA good or better on both as well as vWD free. PLEASE BELIEVE ME rescue is a wonderful thing. So many people get an animal thanking it is what they want and get in over therE head and then turn it loose of dump it. I would like to put a well trained Dob on them. I am the type that when I get a "pet" it has a home for life win, loose or draw so I try to heg my bets. We do not have kids so our animals are our kids. I'm researching pups from working lines to train from the ground up. Again nothing against rescue. Just playing odds as when I get one its for keeps. Look at Jake. He's a WalMart srecial from over 20 years ago and you had better have several good size men if you thank you can take him from me!! ;)

looks good. i can't imagine how that pre-soaked stuff smells as it cooks. he obviously doesn't light it all at once, so at some point during the cook, there must always be petro fumes.

    good god.

glad you brought him to the light

  • It all looks great! My first experience with lump was cowboy lump.....I went back to Kingsford until someone turned me on to REAL lump :) That was over 5 years ago.

Couldn't help but notice in the picture that the Amberbock (you love that stuff don't ya?) and whatsthishere sauce look awfully similar in shape and color.....be careful you don't swig the wrong one  !

Your friend's smoker/grill isn't exactly thin metal like a Chargriller or Brinkmann's is it? I imagine it would hold heat pretty well, once you get it up there.
