Is there an article writen about the long term health effects of eating a lot of smoked food. For example, burned BBQ food can cause cancer!

Bob Ruddy,[p]They say that a lot of charred food isn't good, because the burnt fat turns into nitrites and nitrosamines. That sounds like a good reason to use an Egg, which minimizes flare-ups. But if the smoke flavor alone turns out to be bad for you, I'm in trouble, because I have a hard time imagining life without that taste.

Bob Ruddy,[p]I have real problems with those studies. First something is "bad" for you then a couple years later they come back and say "Wait a minute, it's not as bad as we thought." If you think back, the nutrionists concluded that eggs were bad and now they're not. The key is moderation and variety. Lot of people don't know, for example, that it's possible to eat enough good, old healthy carrots to fatelly poison yourself![p]As for long term health effects, I think my Dad said it best: "The mortality rate is remarkably consistent. 1 per capita."[p]My 2 cents worth...[p]Kelly Keefe

  • Bob....At a museum in Miles City MT is a wall of photographs of Indians that lived to be near a hundred years old back in the 1800's.[p]Think about it. They either cooked their meat over a smokey fire or ate it raw. The one thing they did not have was sugar. Sugar, complex carbohydrates and partially hydrogenated vegetable oil are the health scourges of the 21st century.[p]Next time I am in Miles City I am going to photgraph those pictures.

Bob Ruddy, I think your statement is accurate when you say BURNED BBQ food is bad for you. The idea however is not to burn the BBQ. I would be interested in any articles you might have as I am trying to put together a section on food safety and would like to include links to any refutable studies that address food safety.
