OVER TEMP DAMAGE?

edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
hello all,

i tried my hand at smoking a goose last week. it turned out only ok. while cooking the goose i got the commensurate amount of grease which i planed for and caught with a drip pan. i tried to keep the temp down around 200 for approx 5 hours. even at this low temp the grease spattered and sizzled in the pan and off the bird enough to lightly coat the inside of the egg. i thought after i was finished that i would run the temp up to kinda burn out the grease so i opened her up wide open . it still had plenty of charcoal and started puffing good . i went inside to put the bird up and promptly forgot about the egg for the moment. 20 minutes later i started back out and noticed the thermometer was near 100 or 150 degrees. i thought the egg might have gone out and then i realized OH NO it was way past the 750 degrees shown...near 900 or 1000 degrees?
i don't see any cracks.

have i damaged my egg?
is it safe to use?
