Floating Chicken Coop
Spring Chicken
Posts: 10,255
Just in case anyone wants to build a Chicken Coop like ours but lacks the space in the yard, here's an option to consider...

The guy who built it said:
"I was going to build the Gazebo on the edge of my dock down by the lake but I thought I might just as well build the deck with floats on it and I can then take it out fishing too. It has 15,000# capacity.
The deck is 18ft x 18ft with 12 plastic foam filled dock floats that are 4ft x 4ft by 18 inch. high.and the Gazebo is 10 ft. Hexagon with a table and chairs inside.
Under the table is my trolling motor so I can take it out to my favorite fishing hole. The trolling motor is remote controlled wireless so I can be fishing outside and operate the motor.
On the top of the table I have a LOWRANCE Fish-Finder with depth sounding sonars and temp gauge.
I have 2 electric winches with 40# anchors. I have also built in a water pump so I can clean the fish right on the spot. Now I can relax and fish while my wife can sit and relax."
Now, this is the kind of person who desperately needs a Big Green Egg.

Sorry Spring, for a long time I had always thougt the coop was the finest in the world.
Don't tell this guy about eggs or the coop will be number two, and this floatee coop will take number uno.
G (wish I have a umbrella) G -
I might need something like that for the back yard. So much rain the last few weeks I'm almost floating away.
-
I don't know about this one. One hot coal in the wrong place and these guy better be able to swim but then again I guess the large comes with the spark screen, doesn't it.
-
My Coop doesn't float because it walks on water LOL

Everyone who lives in South Louisiana could use one of those from time to time. Sounds like NOW is one of those times.
Spring "Drip Dry" Chicken -
He's got a whole lake to put the fire out with.
Spring "Titantic Comes To Mind" Chicken -
Shoot, forgot about that.
G (first step, umbreall, then onto a coop) G -
Just like the ole Bama coach Paul Bear Bryant. I saw him walk across the Tennessee river once. Miles out
-
So when are you coming to help "supervise" the construction. I NEED one of those!
-
Yep, a Tiny Tim, floating-coop eatery could be a big hit in Crescent City, at least until the next Bush-activated hurricane hits! Are you as light on your feet as you sound? 8 - )
Rascal -
I just can't believe it and I am stumped for words. Why the antenna on top of the weather vane? How bout some lake steamed shrimp?
-
He pretty much told you how he did it. The rest is a piece 'a sponge cake.
Just build what you see in the photo and then put stuff under it that floats.
You're welcome...
Spring "Everything I Do Is Outside The Box" Chicken -
Not yet but will be starting at 3:00 PM Central Texas Time.
Spring "My Clock Must Be Slow" Chicken -
I got to get me one for my pond!!
-
Then you could call your pond a "mote." And if you've got a mote, then you must have a castle. And if you have a castle then you should be able to afford to pay somebody to cook for you. And then you would lose out on all the fun... And isn't fun what you set out to achieve in the first place???
Gotta think this stuff thtough.
Spring "Pragmaticator" Chicken -
It can't be a coop without Spring Chicken involvement, You wouldn't want me to settle for a cheap immitation, would you?
-
Good point. You do cheep and you get cheep. Around here that's "Cheep Cheep."
Just send the corporate jet over to get me when you're ready.
Spring "Fly Me To The Moon" Chicken -
I don't mind sending the coporate jet, if you don't mind the landing!
-
I don't know Leroy, I would say a two jet ski's and a rope may lead to some real fun for some real pranksters, boy talk about a ride of your life.
-
Lordy but that is a thing of beauty. Wouldn't that be a fun little toy to own? I would settle for just living on that lake!
Gwen
P.S. Big Un, love your photo of the corporate jet. LOL
