ive lit the egg with coal,( assuming your meaning anthracite and not brickets ) ive cooked hot dogs over it but it needs to be glowing red and coal produces so much ash it would choke itself out quickly in an egg. seems i put 40 pounds in my stove a day and remove an equal amount of weight in ash.fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I dunno.... If you're just tryin' to generate heat vs. cookin', you're inq a different ballpark. With heatin' smoke goes up the chimney. With cookin', it goes in yer food! The choice be yourine! 8 - )

origionally newyork thin crust was cooked in coal fired ovens, maybe a few lumps for flavor?fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

I have not much liked the flavor infused with charcoal. Lump is good stuff.
I would imagine 'snuffing' out coal is going to be harder than snuffing out lump.

I thought I remembered that from a topic years ago...any oldtimers remember?
