Barbecue On A Stick

The fresh ham I picked up from the butcher today is frozen solid, so while it's thawing and curing this next week, I found some picnic trimmings for $1.49 a pound which should make good barbecue on a stick, Filipino style. It's fairly lean, so hopefully it will work out well. I don't measure the marinade ingredients, but the meat will soak in a mixture of 7Up, soy sauce, honey and/or brown sugar, onion, fresh ginger and garlic. I'll slice the meat fairly thin and thread it onto bamboo skewers and cook it over some apple I think.

Lee2,[p]Sounds great, a pork satay.

Teslamania,
This is sweeter than a saytay, and would normally be cooked by street vendors over the nastiest cheapest charcoal around. It is good, though, and you can adjust the sweetness factor, of course. If there are any Westpac sailors in the group, I imagine they know this barbecue by its other name, monkey meat.

Char-Woody,[p]I just got back from the SUPER MEGA WALMART in Ankeny, holy cow. They got a supermarket in there. I saw a 14 lb Brisket, and all most bought the damn thing just because it was $.99 a pound. What I'd give for the Large BGE right now.[p]I'm really starting to miss the convience of this place.[p]TT

Tanker Tim,

RhumAndJerk,[p]Oops, I fat fingered that one.
Not yet, I've been without a heat source for awhile since the British stores don't carry lump during the winter.
I just got six bags from the local True Value and will be making a trip to the post office on Mon. Then I'll be back in the saddle (for a couple of weeks at least).[p]TT

Tanker Tim, [p]Thats a hunk of brisket..Wow. Good price. Dang, but if ya got the time I can share my Large BGE :-) I am about 1.25 hours away from ya !! [p]Good deal on the charcoal, you will like it if the US postal doesn't reduce it to powder for ya in transit.
Cheers..C~W[p]
