Cutting handle off Cast Iron Skillet

Love my Medium BGE but a larger skillet just will not fit. I have seen pics of the handle cut off. How did you do it??

You can cut the handle with a hack saw, it just takes a little effort doing it by hand. You can also use a right angle grinder with a metal cutting disk. Smooth the cut with a metal file and emery cloth. I like the hack saw, safer. It's about a 1 beer job.

You just need a metal cutting saw called a hack saw. Then a bench grinder makes cleaning it up a snap. To date I've severed 4 handles. BTW cast iron is actually a soft metal and while you make work up a sweat it's really an easy alteration to make.

LOL see the little oval pan the scallops are in? that had a handle 10 minutes earlier, he just used a die grinder with a cut off wheel. works perfect.I have two others out on the work bench for modifications

Haaa!....yeah, your right. I taste my beer, ponder it's qualities then go back to sawing.
Really, it takes about 3 minutes to cut through using a hack saw. And 5 minutes before and after sawing to ponder the qualities of the beer I'm drinking.
....about a one beer job for me anyhow.

I had several cast iron utensils I want to "de-handle" for use with my Medium -- but no tools. I just took them to an auto body show, and the fellow cut them off and burred them down in minutes while I waited.

I cut the handle off and added a half loop handle. Great for searing/blackening steaks and fixing a sauce with the drippings.....

Cast iron is a reasonbly soft metal. Anything that cuts metal should work. One thing about metal, unlike wood, slow blade speeds are best. For example with a jig saw, run it about 1/2 to 3/4 speed with a little 3-1 oil to lubricate the cut. It will preserve the blade and eliminate the extra trip or two to homer de'pot.....LOL.

Why cut the handle off? Just remove it, that's what I do...
