Where do you buy Butcher's String?

Crazy as it seems, I would like to have some Butcher's string on hand. Our local meat market gave us enough to tie up our Prime Rib. We didn't find any string like this at Publex, so I thought I would check here.

If you have a Kroger in your area, you can find it there in the gadgets department. It's sort of pricy for string. The people in the butcher dept. gave me enough to tie up boo-koos (a lot) of meat.

Everytime I go to Costco I just ask them and they give me about 10-20 feet for free.

i ordered a cone of it from a cooking catalog but don't remeber which. however i did not order the holder, which was a mistake, as it falls over. my local hardware store carrys the smaller rolls. some options in the below link

Morning Uncle Phil:[p]I bought a full roll of it from the meat department at my local Publix (that was about 5 years ago, still have plenty). All I did was ask if he had or could get me a roll. He went in the back and brought out a full roll and put a price sticker on it (I do not remember how much, but it was not very much). HTH[p]Have a GREAT day!

Uncle Phil, As I mentioned on the "sister" board, I just buy a ball of heavy, cotton twine, and find, that for the most part, it works just great. If you need to sear a piece of tied/trussed meat, perhaps the "special" stuff would be better, although,who knows what "polys" or synthetics will permeate the cook. I guess ss or monel (readily available in quantity at most bait & tackle shops might be a viable alternative (and it's reusable, too)! 8 - ) Happy Eggin', and be sure to & tie one on![p]Rascal

BBQ's Galore, Bed Bath and Beyond, Walmart. Some grocery stores also carry it but you might have to do some searching for it. Most clerks don't even know what it is.

I just asked my butcher if I could buy a roll. He looked at me kind of funny and said thats a lifetime supply. I said cool total 6.50

i buy it from "butcher and packer".... they are supply house for what the name implies... great prices on spices/sausage casings and they have 2 sizes of butcher's string.... rr
