My egg temperture does not go any higher than 225 and hold that temp. I can have the vent all the way open and still the temp. will not climb higher. Help please!

Roosevelt Whitaker, if you have the bottom vent wide open the I'd say you have a bad thermometer. I can't get mine to stay that low.

  • Roosevelt Whitaker,
take it easy big guy; you are doing something wrong. I assume you have the egg top down, your vents are both wide open, that you are using fresh, dry lump, that you have cleaned the lower grid to maintain airflow, and that you have placed the larger chunks around the grid rather than dumping a lot of dust on it. This should run like a Bessemer furnace now. You can stabilize the temp by controling airflow via the vents; I find the lower vent is the most important.

    Roosevelt Whitaker,
Is your firebox opening lined up with the vent opening in the egg?????
