Little Steven,
i was hoping to get some french canadian recipes, its also big down toward rhode island and im betting the cajuns make the stuff as well. my grandmothers was basic and a little bland, hoping to make it a little more flavorful.

fishlessman,
i had no idea what a tourtiere was until i googled it. turns out i've been esting them for years. [p]my wife's family is french canadian. every christmas the men would sit in the kitchen and devour the pies, always motioning me to join them. i wasn't too sure about a "meat pie" and politely declined for the first five years or so until i tried them. now i have a seat at the table each year. [p]i'll ask my wife's aunt about the recipe. as you said, they are 'bland' by some tastes. i always liked them. some onion, pork, veal, etc. nothing too involved.[p]have you had the pork stuffing, with potato mixed in? my M-I-L used to make it, but passed away two years ago. my wife finally nailed the recipe, and we have it here thanksgiving and christmas. i could eat five pounds in a sitting, i swear

stike,
my grandmothers had some potatoes mixed in. its probably not right, but i always have seen pork only as an english pork pie, and pork and potato as a french tourtiere. at the xmas reunions we always had the pie with a fancy dish of ketchup with a gravy laddle on the side. guys trying to cut the line at the food table to get to the meatpie. pork pies cook good in the egg, should be easy to make.

fishlessman,
Have you seen marjorie standish, down east cooking cook book. Being from New england I imagine you might enjoy it. I will look to night to see if there is a meat pie in it.

fishlessman, I've had it with venison, elk and moose before.I think you have to use pork fat in those. I'm really not a fan of allspece and cloves.Steve
