Okay, I'm going to make these tomorrow (Monday) night for about 15 Young Life kids. How long do I simmer them and how much beer do I use? Any special kind of beer? [p]Then, what temp do you egg the dogs at? Probably doesn't matter much, just regular dog grilling temps? I'll be using Heb Nats of course.[p]I made chili today to go with them and am going to serve them with corn and root beer floats. Chocolate chip cookies for dessert.[p]Thanks, can't wait to try these!

  • Dimple's Mom,

    Until they are heated through.
Enough to cover the dogs.[p]> Any special kind of beer?
What ever you like.[p]> Then, what temp do you egg the dogs at?

Yep. How long? I like mine blackened.

  • there was a nice thread a while back on hot dogs. here is on recipe i saved in my file. you might give it a try. [p]Posted by Lost in Utah on November 03, 2007 at 22:44:05:[p]Hebrew National beef franks grill up real nice on the Egg. Throw them on a bun with mustard
and sauerkraut and I am in hot dog heaven.
New York City street vendors also have an onion sauce that is unique to the City. If I hanker for
the true New York vendor hot dog experience I skip the sauerkraut and toss on some onion sauce.
Since the sauce is hard to fine I make my own:
New York Hot Dog Onion Sauce
    1 tablespoon canola oil
    4 cups thinly sliced onions
    3 teaspoons minced fresh garlic
    1 tablespoon flour
8 ounces red tomato sauce, smooth not chunky
    8 ounces water
    2 tablespoons corn syrup
    3 teaspoons vinegar
    2 bay leaves
    1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
    1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    1 dash ground cloves
Sauté the onions and the garlic in oil, simmering, about 15 to 20 minutes, until tender, not brown.
Add the flour and stir and cook at least one minute.
Add remaining ingredients, cover and simmer 50 minutes.
If it’s getting too thick, add a touch more water.
Remove bay leafs and slap on dog.
    bon appetite!!!
