mike, I've used then a bunch. I put a can of beer in it plus slice up a small onion and place it in the roaster also. Alot more sturdier than a beer can but costs a litte bit more to. Be carefull taking roaster off grill when hot, they break very easy.[p]CWM
  • Mike,[p]I have one and I like it. Two things though: It seems to add about 1/2 hour to the cooking time since I guess it doesn't get as hot or conduct as well as a beer can. Spray it down good with Pam to make cleanup easier.[p]Kelly Keefe

    mike,
Most commonly known one is "Willie's Chicken Sitter" which is available through several BBQ-supply websites, none of which I can remember (someone here will!). Base wider that top/mouth lends stability to the chicken sitting on and over it, and will hold enough beer/onion/garlic, etc., to flavor your bird. About $10, a little more for a turkey sized one! Much better than a beer can (I almost cut my finger off once on a can), safer and more stable, plus no aluminum or logo dye aromas.

vegas slim, Never tried the butterflied chicken, have to this summer. It takes 3 beers for me to get the beer butt chicken going. One to watch over the lump when lighting (I know it is not neccessary but a great excuse) Another for the roaster. And the last one to wait for the temp to rise and adjust the vents accordingly. Love beer butt chicken cooking.[p]CWM
