My brother bought his new Egg unassembled. Any one have tips or caveats for putting a large Egg together? He has yet to discover this site.

YB:[p]More specifically, I think he is concerned about the silicone and bands issue. Any help along these lines?

djm5x9,[p]Correct. The last thing I want him to do is to over tighten or under tighten the dome.
  • AndyR,[p]Hi, Im trying to remember any "gotcha's" from when I put mine together and I believe it was all quite straight forward. [p]One thing for shure if you have the autolock band is to use the silicone glue they give you for the band and tighten those band bolts down until the brackets bend a little. You wont break the Egg... but you realy want that thing tight or your dome will fall off and be in pieces on the ground. You should check them from tightness now and then also as a routine and keep a little WD-40 on them bolts to prevent rust. [p]The only other thing I can think of would be to have the firebox notch aligned with the bottom vent door.... simple thing but sometimes overlooked. [p]These are the main errors that some overlook. [p]Happy Egging ..... BB
  • AndyR,
use all the silicone and i have my bolts bending they are checked each and every time after i cook as i dont want humpty's head falling off!
