Partially Enclosed Outdoor Kitchen & BGEs

Unknown
edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
My wife & I are planning an outdoor kitchen. We live in Georgia where the mosquitos are bad year-round, so we want to build a screened-in outdoor kitchen (2 walls and 2 screened walls). I was wondering if anyone has their BGE enclosed and if so, what type of ventilation. I would like to use a stainless steel outdoor grade exhaust hood if anyone has any suggestions.

southerncharm,[p]As long as you put the Egg on the screened in wall you would be fine for the most part.I would also consider a celling fan in the area to move any smoke.
I have placed Eggs on screened in area before.

  • southerncharm,
My egg is at one one end of a long porch enclosed on three sides by the house proper, the ceiling is part of the main roof line of the house. I don't have the open side screened but I can't imagine screening makes much difference. The ceilings are 9' with a ceiling fan and I ended up having to go the stainless exterior vent route. It ended up being on the expensive side and bit of a complicated project, but I'd do it again. btw, the ceiling fan thing did not work for me. All it ended up doing was turning my fan blades black. I'll give you more info and or pics if you're interested.[p]Reed

  • Conundrum,[p]We would appreciate any additional information or pictures. I have only been able to locate Viking exhaust hoods and they are EXPENSIVE. You are right though, I am sure they are worth the money.
  • southerncharm,
Mine was made by a company called Wind Crest. It's all stainless and is really a pretty nice piece of equipment. There are normally two options regarding the blower, being fans located in the hood or fan located in the roof mounted exhaust. I have the fan in the roof part and HIGHLY recommend that. The part that got more complicated than I hand anticipated was the duct work from the hood, through the attic and to the roof mounted portion. I don't want to post the $$'s as some will think I've lost my mind. Shoot me an email and I'll fill in the details and send you some pics back.[p]Reed

  • What did you decide to go with? We are in the process of putting a large green egg on our screened 10' ceiling ourdoor patio. We feel certain a vent hood of some type is what's needed....what has been your experience? Any recommendations?
