Use welders gloves..the longer the better..as I`m sure you know now..LOL..we`ve all been there...welcome to the club[p]Wess

Jim R,[p]After last weeks cook of inch and a half thick chops. at a HIGH temp, I no longer am in need of a haircut, as the front and sides (where I needed it most) was singed to the nth. Some NASTY smelling crap when getting into the shower...but, hey, I saved about 40.00! ROFL

Jim R,
Man, those look good. Looks like the effort was well worth the lost finger hair.[p]My mouth is watering.

Jim R,
Look in a fireplace / wood stove store for a pair of leather heat resistant gloves.

Jim R,
What's a good night on the grill without a little lost arm/finger hair! Most of the time, you won't have that problem with the egg!

Jim R,
Went down to the local welding supply store and got welders gloves $9.
Learned to 'burp' Mr. Egg no longer losing knuckle, hand, arm or facial hair.
Burping consists of cracking the top just a hair a couple of times to let small amounts of oxygen into the fire box instead of one big "wwhoosh". Be very careful when opening after a dwell...just the information you needed...right?
Steaks look good!

Jim R,
Those steaks are so juicy you could make soup with the drippings, nice picture. What's on them?[p]Earl

Jim R,[p]You can get welder's gloves at Home Depot or Lowe's. They are less than $15 and will protect you well enough. When I first got my Egg I used them each and every time I opened the lid. Now I rarely use them to open the lid, because I've gotten too cocky and I think I know how to avoid flashbacks. That isn't 100% true, but when I'm paying attention it is. I do still use the gloves to remove fire bricks when switching from indirect to direct, so the gloves do still have their uses.[p]BTW, nice looking steaks![p]--sdb
