I teamed up with a young friend and co-worker this weekend and we decided to compete in the Buda Texas Fire Fest BBQ Competition. Finished OK, for our first contest. Our team Longhorn Tailgaters took 9th place in chili and 6th place in Brisket. Both of us wanted to win in Ribs, but the competition is stiff in that category. Many of the large team smokers must have cost $25,000.00 or more. Sound systems. Chrome pipes etc. My partner built the smoker we used and learned to weld while doing it. He is the person responsible for my purchase of a BGE, we both wondered how we would have done if there had been a place for it on the trailer.[p]In addition to BBQ there was a fireman's competition and we got to see some very impressive athletes perform. Of course, Friday night had a couple of really good country bands playing and the weather was perfect.[p]Sure wish we had been at Eggtober Fest, but this was a wonderful substitute.
