Flat Iron Steak?

Has anyone here tried a Flat Iron Steak? I saw them at my local Fry's yesterday on sale for $4.99/lb. Picked up a couple and grilled one last night for dinner. It was wonderful! Cooked it like a tri-tip and it tasted similar to a tri-tip. Great marbling. Very tasty & tender![p]MM

MesaManiac,[p]Does it come from near the serloin cut?
-
DynaGreaseball,[p]It's from the beef chuck near the ribeye.[p]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_iron_steak[p]MM

MesaManiac,
This "cut is the second most tender cut of beef, after the tenderloin"[p]Now that makes this worth a try. Thanks

MesaManiac, On a recommendation from the butcher, I tried them a while back when I couldn't find skirt steaks. To me, they didn't quite make it. Perhaps it was just a bad cut and I should give it another try... Anyone out there done a good comparison of the two?[p]Rascal

MesaManiac,[p]I had this cut of beef for the first and second time while in Utah 2 and 3 months ago. I couldn't get enough of it (Thank Goodness I wasn't paying the tab at the Mariott).[p]I had intended on trying them this weekend at home but sad to report, when I asked the guy at Kroger where to find it, he pointed in the direction of skirt steak, and me, being in a hurry, didn't read the label. I was sick when I got home and had picked up the wrong cut.

TRex,
Do you or anyone else know if they carry these at Sam's or Cosco's, I've never seen them that I know of. Are they ever named something else?
Thanks, can't wait to try em!

Carolina Wizard,[p]Costco does not carry them (at least in my area.) You may find the shoulder cut from which it comes though.
