Plate setter - Cleaning

What's the best way to clean the soot, crud and gunk of of the plate setter when its reached the point that its pretty gunked over? Mine is getting a pretty good build up after a year or so of heavy use.

BamaSmoker,[p]Keep it in the egg and run the temp up to about 600-700 and let it run for 20 minutes.[p]Put the dirtiest side down for the best cleaning. The next day take a crumpled ball of aluminum foil and rub the crusties off the platesetter and the inside of the egg.

I've just been using my ash tool to scrape mine off. After it cools off and crusts up, just scrape it off with the flat side, everything comes off nicely
