Egg in the winter

First, thank you all for all you help. I purchased my egg at the begining of the summer and I visited this forum countless times for advice, tips, ideas and recipes. I have provided my friends and family with a number of wonderful meals all with the help of all of you.[p]On to my question: Those of you up north, what do you do with your egg in the winter? Is there a problem using the egg when it is extemely cold? Should I take any precautions with using it when it is below freezeing? [p]Thanks again for the help!

DD,[p]One fellow in the great north somewhere was cooking when the wind chill was 38 below. I don't think the egg is the problem but rather the cook trying to avoid frostbite.

virtually no issues. only worry is freezing rain, when the gasket might freeze together. just light from below via the lower vent or drop in a starter cube from the top.[p]other than that, you won't really notice temp or fuel differences.

DD,[p]The egg works fine in winter. I use mine all winter here in Colorado. It works just fine below zero. [p]Once in a while it will freeze shut when it has been used and the gasket gets wet. To unfreeze, put a lit starter cube into the top and wait for it to come up in temperature so it thaws.[p]The last rule, don't put you tongue on it. You know the rest.

<p />DD,[p]Someone will post a picture of an Egg sitting in the middle of snow smokin' away. No problem at all. Like was mentioned, frozen water my cause the top and bottom to stick together if there is an air gap anywhere, but this is easily solved by lighting a fire underneath or using a hairdryer.[p]Cheers,[p]TRex

Damn, Fall starts on Sunday and were dropping into the mid 70's at night, I'm not happy bout that.

Bordello,[p]This past weekends camping trip it got to the 40's. Perfect camping wewather and Egging weather. Cold weather was 50% of the reason I got an Egg.

Heck I usually do that before i shovel the driveway.

Is there a problem using the egg when it is extemely cold? YES, MY FEET GET COLD AND SOMETIMES WET AS WELL, ALSO IT SEEMS MUCH DARKER OUTSIDE DURING THE COLD WEATHER

We cook all year long. Yup, winter too. and It get's a little colder than some have indicated here. No worries. It is especially nice to cook on Christmas, New Years, Valentines day, and all the days between. Freezing is 32F. it's way colder than that here. even below zero is OK.

EggRacer, Yes that was me and a few others, I plan this year to get a picture of my Eggs temperature and beside it a temperature snap shot of the outside temperature in the middle of Jan 2008 here in Ottawa Canada. Never had a problem with any outside temperature.
