Hi Folks...just a short slide show of my first cook at home on my new BGE. This thing is awesome. Not too bad for the first time doing pizzas. The veggie was a little runny (too many veggies on top), but the pepperoni was right on! Exactly what I expected. Cripsy crust on the outside...and that great "wood fired" taste.[p]JD

    JD McGee,
Why do you say "Not" to use those Rutland fire starters? I have been using those exact starters for MANY years and have been very pleased with them....Nice pies BTW...[p]Wess

  • WessB,[p]Hi Wess...my wife and I noticed a definite parrafin / chemical odor at start up and in the first pie. After that it must have dissipated because we couldn't detect it in the second one. We actually threw a lot of the first pie away because of the taste.[p]JD

    JD McGee,
They do put off a bit of odor when first lit..but in my experience it`s gone before adding any meats or foods...I would certainly think it would be gone long before you got up to pizza temp...They claim no foul taste...And I personally have never tasted anything foul when using them...could just be a difference in tolerance and/or sensitivity I spose.....Use whatever works best for you..[p]Wess

  • WessB,
We tried them at the fest an thought the same thing as JD. Back to the trusty Mapp gas for me...

  • JD McGee, glad to hear it was as good as you were hoping. Enjoy your BGE, and spread the word!

  • Madhatter,
Yeah, hot jets of mapp fire gooood. Besides, didnt you steal my torch at the fest to complete your lighting?

  • Whack Masterson,
Heck yes i did, officially I just borrowed the torch, but stole some of the gas... Saved me having to walk my fat but back to the motor home another time....
