<p />I built this table for my mini using some leftover Granite from my inside kitchen remodel. I'm not sure how to finish the front. I'm thinking of some simple wood doors, but I'm not really confident about my door-making skills. I'm open to ideas. How would you finish this project? Thanks.

  • RemoGaggi,[p]If you're not confident about your cabinetry skills, find someone who builds and installs kitchens -- They can knock out a set of doors whiz-bang! [p]Their "big" tools cut all the pieces "just so" all at one time... etc...[p]Shouldn't cost too much.[p]BTW -- Methinks you'll need something different under the EGG -- heat, cracking the tile, etc...[p]~ Best Wishes![p]~ Broc

  • RemoGaggi,
Table looks great Gaggi, good job. The answer to your question depends on the almighty $$$. (Doesn't it always). Option 1: have a local carpenter or cabinet maker make you some doors out of a weather proof wood (cedar, redwood, ipe', etc). Option 2, Make your own 'slab' doors out of a Sheet good (MDX (the x is important), CDX ply (ugly), MDO (Cover edges and paint), etc. Your local building supply house can get any of those for you. Option 3. Have a local sheet metal shop make you a couple of doors out of Galvinzed (not readily paintable), aluminum, or stainless steel. Will last longest, but probably most expensive. I guess you could make it retro with some hanging beads ala' 1973. Have fun with it and I hope it turns out well for you.

    RemoGaggi,
I don't see any ceramic feet so I strongly suggest adding them plus a cement block to set those feet on! Furthermore since you have already essentially enclosed the vent and want to enclose it even more with a couple doors I'd suggest buying a fire extinguisher! Your mini needs to suck air, but at the same time it can get very hot and blow flames back out of the bottom vent when your mini is rip-roaring hot and you close the dome. Trust me! That blue "jet after burner" flame will make a believer out of you once you see it!

    Whack Masterson,
hell, the local big box can get you any door within a half inch of any dimension in either direction.[p]a door costs $30 or so. how much would it cost him of his own time to make the thing?

  • stike,
Yeah, he could probably get a pair of doors for about 60 bones or so at the big box, the downside being that they would not be an outside wood more than likely. Here in the beautiful sunny (liquid sunshine) Pacific Northwest I have made a fair amount of money replacing exterior decks, doors and woodwork that was not the right type. So, I guess I always error on the side of bulletproof from my experience, more expensive on the front side less in the long run. [p]Whack

    Whack Masterson,
yeah. yer right about that.[p]i was trying to scare him off making them himself. hahaha my house has a number of projects still 'in progress' after a few years. i'd say "heck, i'll just make the doors myself", and three years later, still be doorless.

  • stike,
I feel your pain buddy. I am a general contractor and my house is constantly in a state of 'renovation' usually about 75-90% done before I get another bee in my bonnet and start another project. The wife unit has acutally put a moratorium on new projects recently. The nerve! Something about wanting something 'done'. Geez.[p]Whack

    Whack Masterson,
hahahaha[p]wife had two requirements before we moved in. "i want the bathroom done, and the kitchen done".[p]been in the house seven years. still need to finish the drywall in he bathroom, and wrap up the trim work. kitchen hasn't been STARTED let alone finished.[p]i'll pay you to do it.

  • stike,
Sounds good, though I have a feeling that my trip charges may drive the price up just a tad...Lets see, about 2500 miles at .37 per mile, carry the 3, add .20 P&O, umm, carry the 7...Wow, OK, I'll be there Monday morning, have the coffee and doughnuts ready.
