<p />Well, I thought I'd start with a picture since I haven't posted in a while - this was a Dizzy Cow Licked flat iron with cilantro that I cooked about a week ago.[p]Now to my question: I'm on a hummus kick again and I love the hummus that Publix sells but dang that stuff is expensive. I've looked at some recipes online but I trust the taste buds here more than anywhere else. So, anyone got a recipe they can share?[p]Thanks in advance,[p]TRex[p]

    TRex,
We usually buy the ready made in the deli, but Mr. Google has a few thoughts. [p]

    TRex,
the ex has the recipe... however..1 can garbanzo, 2-4 garlic cloves, 3 tbs lemon juice , salt to taste, 1-2 tbs olive oil the key to this is skip the tahini and roast your own sesame seeds. minimun 3 tbs i use a 1/2 cup.. sesame seeds go rancid rapidly so if yours are not vacuumed pack and in the freezer buy new...they burn easily,,, lightly toasted..grocery store will sell you a few ounces for a few dollars... go to the asian market....for the same $$ you will get lots... they usually have black ones as well which make a great garnish on top or use a bit of chopped parsley.. grind the sesame seeds in a morter or surabachi or in the processor till fine add garlic and puree add the beans, lemon, salt grind and drizzle in the oil.. roasted red pepper added is great.. if you end up with black and white sesame seeds... get some wasabi paste as well.... make blocks of FRESH tuna dip one side in the black sesame other in the white. oil the grates put it on your egg and turn all four sides to the heat, don't burn the seeds. slice and serve with wasabi mayo piped oven in a fine ribbon, specatacular presentation with the black and white seeds the grey outer cooked tuna and the round center of barely warm dark fish.. [raw for me but you need FRESH tuna ]

  • TRex,
start with a can of garbanzo beans. To start: Add about 1/4 cup tahini (sesame seed butter), garlic, salt & pepper, roasted red peppers, about 1 tblsp. lemon juice. I make it to taste and change amount of ingredients per your taste buds. I end up using the whole small red pepper jar. even a splash of wine can be good as well as cayenne pepper. Good luck. share a recipe if you find a good one.

  • Richard,
believe it or not, I substitute raw zucchini for the chickpeas and add garlic, lemon, olive oil and tahini as per normal hummus. A bit runnier but more delicious, in my opinion.
