I need a good meat indicator gauge, tired of the one's from Lowe's and Cosco, I have a great instant read looking for the other type. Don't mind paying for it, just want one I can depend on.

ltbamadad,[p]I use the basic TruTemp ones, similar to Taylor and Polder brand. They have an armored cable, alarm and a timer. about $15 at WalMart. I have had these last for about 3 or 4 years. They are within 2° of true. Never even changed batteries.[p]One thing to note, I only use them on low and slow cooks in the meat (or sometimes to monitor grate temp), but here is the kicker .... Some folks use theirs during the entire cook, but I usually don't even stick the meat until the guesstimated halfway point or later into the cook. (So if I do a 10# brisket I don't stick it until hour 8 or 9). A turkey breast, tri-tip or prime rib would be an exception since the window of my personal doneness is so tight.[p]I'm not trying to baby them or anything, I've just cooked enough butts and briskets I know what's happening early on.
