pizza stone ruined?

Unknown
edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
OK, wife washed my pizza stone with dish soap, now has funny odor when using it but dont really notice a taste diffrence. Can I bake the soap out by leaving it at high heat for a while or should I just go get a new one?

    Hoss450,
Shame, shame shame. That is a bad thing to do.I would run it through the dish washer without any cleaner and you might get lucky.Or put it in a pot of boiling water a few times and cross your fingers.

  • Hoss450,
Soap is water soluble. I'd soak it for a day or two, changing the water a couple of times a day. Then fire it dry.

Hoss450,[p]I've heard that soaking in a lemon-base water or arm and hammer baking soda (like you use in the frig/freeezer) will remove odor.[p]Do a search on google of 'remove odor from cutting board' or 'remove odor from tupperware' or 'remove odor from rubbermaid' or 'remove odor from cooler'.[p]As a matter of fact, if you do have a cooler that needs to be cleaned, kill two birds, fill up the cooler with hot water and some arm and hammer. Let it sit for a day, rinse, then let it soak for about 6 hours and rinse again and soak again if needed.[p]Finally, if you have a oven with self-clean, place it in there. After the cycle, it should look like new!

  • Hoss450,
with the time and effort you are putting in just go buy a new one

  • Hoss450,I would get rid of it. We never wash our stone. Just scrape it off and go again. Ours is black. LOL

  • Hoss450, Just do what i do and cover it in heavyduty alum foil and set and forget it !!!!!!!!!!!! 0:)

  • Hoss450,
i did the same thing[p]I soaked mine in a cooler for sbout a week changing out the water occasionally[p]I then dried it in the sun for about a week.[p]Jan[p]
