How to get temp back to 300deg
Newbie here.
Lit my new egg for the first time yesterday and just couldnt get the temp to go back to 300. I'm living on a windy hill side wondering is that causing the high temp.
Lit the egg with fire starters in 4 places. closed all the vents and it still wouldnt drop below 350. Any advice would be welcome.

andy_ireland,
Often the fire starters themselves give a false high reading before they burn totally out. If you shut the vents and daisy completely, it will get down--to ambient temp, eventually, because the fire will go out.
Open the daisy petals full, and the bottom vent about 1/4" and you should have around 300 if the firebox is lined up and your airflow is unrestricted.
Good luck.

during assembly of your new egg, please make sure that the firebox slot opening is aligned with the bottom outer adjusting slider - this will allow the max air flow

andy_ireland,[p]I think part of your problem might be as to how long you had the egg at a higher temp. The longer you keep it at a higher temp, the more heat the ceramic cook absorbs. Even if you shut down all the vents it will still take a while for the temp to come down once the cooker has that ambient temp built up in it.[p]Now I am just a newbie with a BGE here, so please correct me if I am incorrect on this everyone.[p]John

andy_ireland,
if you want 350, don't let it go above that temp, at least not for very long.[p]also, 4 starters is a bit overkill too.
if i'm aiming for sear temps ASAP, i'd still only use three.[p]there's no reason to get "a good hot fire going" and then drag the dome temp down. the fire is no better established by roaring along for a while and then being choked down to target temps. rathewr, sneak up on it. a 300, start tweaking the vents until you see the thermometer needle slowing down. wait for it to settle on 350.[p]a few minutes above target is no big deal, but any significant time above 350 will make it harder to rein in the fire.

Cheers for all the good advice.
I'm going hard at it again this evening with renewed excitement.
