New Plate Setter?

Unknown
edited November -1 in EggHead Forum
Ladies and Gentlemen,[p] I read with interest your previous discussion on a plate setter and whether it was a 'new' one or 'old' one. There appears to be a production number on the upper surface on the old ones and on Tim's site the legs appear to be formed differently with indentations or depressions on the plate up side on the legs. Is yours a new one Tim? Is that how I would know if I have a new rendition or not?[p]Thanks.[p]Dr. H.

    Dr. H.,
What exactly is a plate setter? I'm new to the whole fire brick/indirect cooking. A pic would help, thanks.

Wardster,[p] Here's a picture of my plate setter. You can see that it just fits onto the fire ring, but won't fall into the fire, even if pushed all the way to one side. If you set it on its legs, you can put a pizza stone on top and bake. If you flip it over, you can put a drip pan "inside" it and put the grid on top to do indirect cooking . . .[p]MikeO[p]PS Still not sure there's an "old" version and a "new" version . . .

    MikeO,
Makes perfect sense now. Are those common items at any bbq store?
    Thanks!

    Wardster,
NO..this piece is made by BGE and I have heard most say that they are hard to come by...a friend and myself waited 5 weeks for our Dist. to get them in..however you could always oreder one directly from BGE..[p]Wess

Dr. H.,[p]I have had three different plate setters over the last 3+ years. The two here are the original one found by our own JJ and the 1st prototype BGE came up with. MikeO posted a pic of the newest one and you can tell it's the new one if it can sit on the firering. [p]The original was the plate setter found by JJ at a local ceramic shop. BGE beefed it up on the prototype and beefed it up more on the current model. Adding a BGE pizza stone on it makes doing pizza a breeze.[p]Tim
