bbq don, check out the link below - we've used it for about 20 years. Also check out http://yyyz.net/bge/R_LexStyleColeSlaw.asp for Randy's Lexington Style Slaw - not vinegar based, but looks good!

  • bbq don,[p]In the BGE Recipe Section under "Side Dishes" there are three different slaws. I made the Lexington slaw over the weekend to have with pulled pork and it is simple and pretty good if you like a slaw with a little kick (depending on how much red pepper you add). All three of them sound good and are easy to assemble.[p]Good Luck and let us know if you come up with a winner that is not in the recipe section. [p]Bill Halte

bbq don,[p]I've used this recipie several times. It came from a friends Mother (in Lexinton, NC). Give it a try and tell us what you think. Its one of my favorates (but some people don't like the vinigar based slaw as much as the cream based).[p]Lexington, North Carolina Bar-B-Q Slaw[p]2 Medium Cabbages, Chopped

    3 Tbs. Horseradish
    3 Tbs. Sale
1 Tbs. Pepper[p]Chop cabbage (blender works well with a little water. Pour into colander to drain). Add chopped onions and tomatoes and drain additional liquid. After draining, add remaining ingredients, cover and refrigerate (last up to three weeks).[p]

    bbq don,
As luck would have it, I picked this one off Cooking Live a couple of nights ago. I haven't had a chance to try it but it looks good. After I make it, and if it's good, I will post it to the recipe section.[p]LADY CAUSEY’S OVERNIGHT CABBAGE SLAW
Recipe courtesy Lolis Eric Elie, "Smokestack Lightning"[p]1 medium cabbage, shredded
    1 small onion, grated
    1 medium bell pepper, chopped
    2 carrots, grated
    3/4 cup sugar
    3/4 cup vinegar
    1/2 cup vegetable oil
    1 teaspoon celery seed
    1 teaspoon dry mustard
    1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper [p]Combine cabbage, onion, green pepper, and carrots in a large bowl and sprinkle with sugar. Set aside. Combine remaining ingredients in a pot and boil 3 minutes. Pour over vegetables, stirring well. Chill overnight. Enjoy.

  • Last time I made slaw, I used Elder Ward's, from his pulled pork series: http://BigGreenEgg.com/recipes/sides/maryLeesSlaw.html[p]I cut down on the sugar, because it seemed like too much. I used one cup of sugar, and it tuned out great.

  • Gfw,[p]You've used this link for about 20 years? I don't know, maybe I'm a little untrusting, but I don't believe you.[p]- Bski

<p />Bski, I haven't used the link for 20 years, but we have been using the recipe for 20 (or more) years - actually the link points to my web site where I posted the recipe. It is in the slaw on the PP in the picture.
