Grilling Uncooked Brats Help

I have usually grilled precooked brats because they were easy and quick. [p]My wife bought some uncooked brats today that supposedly are some sort of local favorite. Any cooking directions would be appreciated - direct/indirect, temperature, smoke etc. I have about 45 minutes to figure out how to do them.[p]Thanks.[p]Smoke Diver

  • Smoke Diver,
Either...simmer brats gently in a bottle of beer and one sliced onion (cover pan) until cooked tbrough, then brown sausages over a fairly high grill temp on egg, lid can be open...
Or...use about 350 direct on egg and turn, move brats a couple of times to brown and cook evenly (lid mostly down, of course), takes 30-45 mins or so...
or...can low and slow (250 for 90 mins or so) but that isn't how brats are usually done, as they aren't typically 'smoked'...[p]hope this helps...

    <p />Smoke Diver,
Oh boy! An easy way is indirect 350 dome. A little more involved is direct raised grid 350 dome. Watch for hot spots and turn'em often. My favorite is beer brat method; In a pan with butter sweat some sliced onions then add brats then enough light lager to almost cover. Simmer gently for about 25 minutes or until cooked. Remove from beer hot tub (save beer in pan) and grill brats direct at 350 to brown them up. When you got'em looking good they are ready for the bun. Leftover brats go back in the beer hot tub to keep'em looking good.
    Thats it, have fun.
