My first Tri Tip- OMG!!!
Legally Blind Egghead
Posts: 106
I did my first Tri Tip today and it was UNBELIEVEABLE! :woohoo:
It was 2.5 lb and I coated with Red Eye Express and set at room temp for about 1 hour as Egg got to 600. Just before I put on Egg I put a dab of yellow mustard, some Kosher salt, cracked black pepper and more RE. Seared for about 3 min per side and rested under foil for about 15 minutes while Egg got to about 375-400. Finished direct on raised grid and when alarm went off at 124^ I put under foil for about 15 minutes. Internal got to about 132 when I sliced it and it was so juicy and delicious! It had the flavor of a fine steak and chewed like a prime rib.
What price do you usually pay for Tri Tips as mine was about $7 lb at Publix for Choice? I'm sure (hope) I can get a little cheaper at Sam's or elsewhere though.
Not bad for no marinade or injection.
If anyone has NOT tried a Tri Tip (can you say that 10 times?), then do yourself a favor and get one soon!
