Brisket Probe Placement

Folks,
Been thinking again. :-)
The last time I did a whole brisket, I noticed the wide range in temeratures when placing my probe into the chunk o' chest.
Let's assume you've got a whole brisket weighing about 11-12 lbs.
It's been egging for 12-plus hours at around 225 grid.
Time to test soon, right?
(Reminder: I had obeyed the first rule: don't open the egg!)[p]I vaguely remeber that my probe readings ranged from a low of 188 to a high of 206, depending on where I took the reading. There were lots of places to go:
1. in the middle of the uncovered flat.
2. where the flat meets the point.
3. midpoint (shallow into the point)
4. midpoint (deeper into the hidden flat)
5. toward the end of the point
6. anywhere else[p]Here's my question:
Assuming that a range of readings is normal, where do you take the reading? Or do you just average things out? [p]Thinking,
Peter
