do i use the plate setter for a boston butt
Comments

nodread,[p]The plate setter is not necessary for a low and slow cook like your boston butt. A v-rack and a foil drip pan will do the job nicely.[p]Spin

nodread,
Remove the cooking grid, turn the plate setter upside down on the fire ring, make a drip pan out of aluminum foil and place it on the plate setter. Replace the cooking grid on the legs, put the boston butt on grid and cook away at 250* dome temp.

nodread,[p] As Spin says, it's not necessary -- but I like to use it anyway. It just comes down to personal preference and I find that the juices in the pan don't burn up as quick with a little more shileding under the pan. Another bonus of using the plate setter is that I have a drip pan (basically, a smoker basket for a Brinkman smoker line with foil) that fits inside the upside-down plate setter perfectly.[p]MikeO

That's how I do mine as well Spin. Inverted V-rack, on 2 firebricks. These may or may not be necessary. Just what I do.[p]Mick
