Cleaning Pizza Stone

Cooked my first pizza's last night. Very good for my first try. I did make a mess on the pizza stone....not very good at getting the pie on and off the peel. Are there any do not do's about cleaning the stone? I have some burnt pizza toppings/sauce on it. Thanks for your help.

putty knife and more pizzas in the future will cure that! You want your stone to turn shiny black - then it will be seasoned, in the mean time NO SOAP!!!

We use parchment paper under all our pizza's. It is cheap and fool proof, makes it very easy to get them on and off the stone, and the peel also for that matter. Good luck Bucky

Oh, no, we have had our egg up over 600 degrees and have never had a paper burn. We take care however to not let it hang out over the pizza stone where it will be in direct contact with the fire. Even then I don't think it would burn. Bucky

I heard putting the stone in a self cleaning oven will do the trick

Agreed! My pissa stone is almost black and nothing sticks to it at all. I use it on the BGE and inside in the oven as well.
