ken, Congrats on the new Egg.. we will get you rocking in no time.
    Questions for you..
Top cap off completely?[p]Fire chamber aligned with front ash pit opening?[p]Ash pit door wide open?[p]Using real Lump charcoal?[p]Firechamber at least half full?[p]Inside grate in place in the firechamber?[p]Fire ring on top of the firechamber?[p]Grill in place on the fire ring?[p]If all the above is "Yes", insert a fire cube in the in the center of your charcoal, or thru the ash pit door and close dome, leave ash pit slider wide open..Sit back and watch the fireworks.[p]Use no liquid starters in the BGE. ie: lighter fluids.
Good luck..e.mail me if you have further problems.

  • ken,
I would be willing to bet you are not putting enough charcoal in. Fill it as Char-Woody suggested. I had the same problem when I first started using my egg.

ken,[p]Could be any number of things. The hole in the firebox pointing out thru the vent?? Did you put in enough lump (not briquettes)? Lump wasn't wet was it? [p]I put a webpage together for new users that might help you get started. Please feel free to visit it:[p]http://www.Tm52.Com/bge/newusers.htm[p]You can get to it from the link below - then select New Users from the menu on the left side. [p]Tim

Pug, (Steve) I can see your heart is in it. Especially when comparing us to Mother. Bless her!
Now as far as that cook book is concerned..hey, there are few good tips in it. But, check us out for the better updated details. Back then, those were some good well intentioned folks that took the effort to put it together. It was a beginning, look where we are now...
You have a great day also..
