I was wondering if anyone had any tips for baking a cake in my Egg. I have a large with a plate setter... I am just wanting to do something very simple and plain... any tips would be very much appreciated

• Jeff,
i've done a few cakes on the egg. i usually do a pineapple upside down cake, or something from a box. Just follow the instrutions given on the box or for any cake recipe. i would say don't add any wood chunks or it can taste kind of funky. use indirect method with platesetter. Sometime you may have to add a couple of minutes to the cooking time. use a toothpick to test if it is done. i got my upside down cake recipe from the better homes and gardens cookbook. if you are married i bet your wife has the cookbook. if not its the one that looks like a tablecloth.

Jeff,[p]DR BBQ cooked one at Eggtoberfest in 2004. You get a clean fire, cook the cake indirect. I don't have a picture of the finished product but any chance to post a picture of my kids :-)[p]kidsmixingcake.jpg[p]John

Jeff,[p]Here's a bad pic of the "Green Velvet Cake" that me and those cute kids made at Eggtoberfest a couple years ago. [p]Use fresh charcoal and have a clean platesetter so the cake doesn't smell like yesterdays chicken.
I use the legs up platesetter and the grate.
Get the temp to 350.
Rotate the cake 1/3 of the way around every 15 minutes to make sure it cooks even.
Like someone said, don't try to time it, use a toothpick to test for doneness. [p]Mine was a white cake with a ton of green food coloring and a little peppermint extract.

wobin,
I agree that cake recipe is a winner!!! BTW I dusted this one with powdered sugar and it looked nice for a short while, but I won't dust one again unless it will be consummed immediately.

Coffee Kahlua Cream[p]I had to dig out my father's notes (he got it from Gourmet), but he has it as:[p]1 pint whipping cream
1 Tb instant coffee
1/4 cup Kahlua[p]Of course, I don't recall him ever measuring anything in his life...[p]BigT
