<p />new egger,

1" thick steaks will cook really fast. I would get my egg to about 500/550. Put your favorite seasoning on the steaks and grill about 4 minutes a side. Take the steaks to internal temp of 135/140. let rest for a few minutes and serve. It's better to get steaks that are at least 1 1/2 " to 2 " thick for future cooks. Good luck,Tom

new egger,
I like to get a good sear on the steaks and then close the egg completly down. I usally throw three wood chunks under the great about 5 minutes before I throw the steaks on. I cook my steaks by touch and the firmer the meat the more well done. yet the 130 135 range is what I use for whole striplions or tenderlions.
