I acquired some Plumwood from a neighbor courtesy of a freak Colorado snowstorm. Has anyone used Plumwood before? Is it like any other fruitwood? Can I use it immediately or does it need to cure a bit?[p]Thanks,[p]ColoradoCook

    ColoradoCook,
I would split and cut it up. Then let it sit for six months to one year to let it season. Green wood has a lot of creosote and other off flavors in it. I have some pear in basement that I have yet to try, but it is seasoned. Yesterday, I just processed some Mulberry that I cut down a year ago.[p]Plum should be good since most fruitwoods do a good job at smoking.
Let us know how it tastes.[p]Hope this helps,

ColoradoCook,[p]Plum is good stuff. I especially like it with poultry, and it mixes well with pecan. [p]Where are you in Denver? My home town (grew up in Hilltop area, family is now in Aurora & Englewood).[p]Cathy

  • Cat,[p]I'm in Aurora at I-225 and Parker Rd in the Dam West Development. Just follow the smoke and the cries of my envious neighbors and your there.[p]ColoradoCook
