plate setter

I live in small town and my hardware stores can't seem to be able to get fire bricks for me. The building material places have them too thick. Will a plate setter take the place of fire bricks, or do I need both? BTW, did Mr. Toads stuffed tenderloin yesterday and it was a real Easter Hit.
Thanks,[p]Ray Price

Babyray, The firebricks are also ceramic of similar grade as the "plate sitter" or the 3/4 inch pizza stone from BGE.
There is a place in Atlanta where you can order the smaller sitter or BGE has a modified larger one that rests on the outer firering. Yes, they will work in place of firebricks.
If sometime you can find some bricks they are nice to have around for flexibility in use. The normal ones are 4.50" wide x 9" x 1.25 thick. Two of them make a perfect 9" square fire barrier in the center of the grill. 3 fits nicely under a large 13" drip pan. 2 more on their edges make a nice second grill set up over the drip pan.
The inverted legs up plate sitter does the same thing.
Right side up, the sitter is ideal for pizza cooks.
Two or three firebricks on edge resemble the same setup with a pizza stone on top. Lots of options.
    Hope this helps..!
