refresh me about an onion

Some time back someone told of tossing a raw onion onto the fire. I assume that imparts some taste and have often thought of trying it, but hate to run the risk. I've got babybacks going on shortly, any experienced risk takers out there try this? Thanks!

    I am far from an expert, but it sounds like a waste of a perfectly good onion to me. Wrap it in foil with a little salt and butter, and bake about 20 minutes and get ready for what I think is a wonderful taste treat! Once you have had one, there is nothing better.
