True Confessions of a Mini User
As long as you are telling stories about setting your tables on fire
I'll tell the story of what people who don't have a table do.
We got our mini and christened it with a filet mignon, and WOW! Everything was very fine and we decided to have a second steak (sirloin) the following day. My problem was getting filthy sorting the charcoal in the bag (its a girl thing), so I took one of my collection of single black gloves and used it to sort. Perfect! Problem eliminated. Now I was faced with the problem of finding the logical place to store said glove, and finding nowhere safe put it in the bag of charcoal. Know what we DON'T recommend to smoke a steak with???I think I've found something worse than varnished lump.
Hoping to make the Eggfest,
KK

KK, I think you just clicked with a answer to an occassional problem that other users have encountered. The dawn is breaking. Your charcoal absorbed the odors from you glove...Right?? And now I realize as I (we) should have done long ago, that storage of charcoal is very important. So sealed containers such as plastic garbage bags, drums, etc, must be odor free.
I will explain..on occassion we have had complaints of charcoal giving a bad bitter or off taste to the food being prepared. No one considered that Charcoal is a natural absorber of odors and is used in filters of many kinds in air cleaners and deordorizers. So naturally the charcoal would retain those and as you described release those atoms into the burned gases and thus a peculiar taste to the smoke absorbing meats...!! I declare!!
Hmmmmmmm...a mystery solved maybe?? Congratulations abd thanks for tossing that one out on the forum.

KK, When I woke up this morning, I realized, thru my fog last night, you actually burned the dang glove?? Whew...what a stink.
But I still think we might be on to something in charcoal storage. I had a good laugh at myself. A bummer..
Thanks for that one for the records..
