Rocky Mountain cooking and a coupon?

Unknown
edited November -0001 in EggHead Forum
Not an owner yet, but looking. How would the egg do up in the mountains, where we are consistently colder than Denver (below zero last night). Our potential addition to the family would be protected from the snow on a covered deck. Can you cook at low temperatures? Does it take more charcoal, watching, tending, etc?[p]Finally, after looking at one yesterday in Denver at Pacific Mercantile, the guy at the checkout thought there was a coupon that people have been bringing in for 10% off. Has anyone local heard of this? Possibly in an Asian magazine, but he wasn't sure. Thanks!

Savitar,[p]You won't have any trouble cooking with the egg at higher altitudes and very cold temps. There are many eggers here who do it all the time.
Once the cooker gets up to temp, it will use very little charcoal and after the short learning curve, require little tending. It's about as simple as a backyard cooker gets.... take the plunge![p]Sorry, can't help you with the coupon question.... good luck.[p]john

    WooDoggies,
BGE runs a December 10% off special that is optional for the dealers. Some may honor it, some may not. It's up to the individual dealer......

Savitar,[p]I cook on my Eggs year round and the only thing I do different is allow more time to bring up the pit temperature slower when the outside temp is zero or below. I'm most likely over cautious.....[p]A far as Pacific Mercantile, that is a great Asian market. We stop there every time we come down to Denver. Just an observation, I have never seen more than one Egg at a time there and they don't have as many package deals and eggessories as some of the other dealers in the area. For the best value and service, definitely buy locally just shop around so you feel good with the deal. If you like I will e-mail you the name of my favorite Egg dealer in the area.[p]~thirdeye~

  • Thirdeye,I would like any recommendations for a dealer. It's true, Pacific Mercantile has only one egg on the floor, but said he could get what I wanted in a day. I need it for a Christmas surprise for husband, and between myself and noodle-armed son, certainly won't be able to unload it in advance and hide it. So I'm not too concerned about what's in stock now. [p]Also egret -- is the BGE special an actual coupon that you take in, or is it reflected in the price on the floor?
    Thanks again!

    Savitar,
This is the way BGE did it last year. They contacted all the dealers via a mailing and asked if they wanted to participate in the 10% offer. Those that responded in the affirmative were listed in a large newspaper ad as dealers that were honoring this promotion. There were no 'coupons' per se. I would tell the dealer you decide on that BGE and many of it's dealers are offering this discount for the month of December, and, will he honor this promotional discount?

  • Thirdeye,
It's my email, so the hubby won't be checking that one. I'll file it away too, just in case he's peeking! ;)
    Thanks.

  • Savitar,[p]I would compare prices with Outdoor Kitchen down in the DTC. That is where I bought my BGE. They seem to have the best prices I found when shopping and a wide selection in stock. They also host the Denver Eggfest so they are a big supporter of the BGE.
