Cleaning a plate setter (pizza stone)

I made my first pizza yesterday using a plate setter for a pizza stone. It made quite a mess and I was wondering the best way to clean it. Suggestions? Thanks.

Don't put it in your self-cleaning oven as I did. It works great, but it smoked up the house for a week. Just fire the egg to 550-600 with the dirty side down for 30 or 45 minutes, and that should do it. Watch your gasket, though. I wouldn't get above 600.

I use a putty knife to scrape off the melted on stuff. Don't worry about the stains, it's just seasoning for the next use. Do not wash it, you'll ruin it.[p]Cheers, Glenn

Heya JimiRayClapton,[p]I clean mine two ways, one when you fire up the Egg next time, throw it on when you burn the grid clean or....put it in a self cleaning oven during the cleaning cycle...works great! It will get dark, that doesn't affect cooking on it, but when it gets grease or crud build up, that how I clean mine!

I always use the self cleaning oven. Now after turkey day the oven is a mess so it is time to also clean up the bbq equipment. The plate setter will come out looking like new. Our oven does not stink up the house, but the ovens are probably different....tom
