Vent screen

I am in the egging mood after a few months hiatus. I have put on a new gasket and have also received a vent screen. I have put the vent screen on, but what is the best way to make the screen and the damper move easily. I have worked on the track with a screwdriver which has make it workable, but are there any other suggestions?
